Frequently Asked Questions
Measure around your dog's neck where the collar will sit — this should be your dog's actual neck measurement. Our saddler will add the right amount of ease based on your dog's breed and build, which we ask for when you order. If you're between sizes, always go up to the next size. All our collars come with a size guide listing the neck circumference each size suits — always check this before ordering, as sizing varies between collar styles.
Yes — our Padded Puppy Collars are specifically designed for young dogs. They use softer, more supple leather and a lighter-weight construction to keep your puppy comfortable while their neck is still growing. We recommend starting with a puppy collar and moving up to our adult range once your dog has reached their full size, usually between 12–18 months depending on breed.
Wipe down your collar regularly with a dry or slightly damp cloth to remove dirt. Every few months — or whenever the leather looks dry — apply a small amount of quality leather conditioner or beeswax balm to keep it supple and prevent cracking. Allow the collar to dry naturally away from direct heat. Remove the collar before swimming or prolonged water exposure for best results.
Our leather collars are water-resistant rather than fully waterproof — they handle rain and the occasional splash without issue. We recommend removing the collar before swimming or bathing your dog, as repeated heavy saturation can cause the leather to stiffen over time. If the collar does get very wet, allow it to dry at room temperature then apply leather conditioner once dry.
With proper care, a quality leather collar can last many years — often outlasting several nylon alternatives. Full-grain leather actually improves with age, developing a rich patina that makes each collar unique. Our hand-stitched collars are built to withstand daily use, and most customers find their collar looks better after a year of wear than it did on day one.
